Workshop Description
Advanced Curriculum Integration and Technology Workshop *
At this advanced workshop in core curriculum integration and technology tools and techniques, teachers will learn:
  • Integrative teaching styles and techniques.  Learn how and why to integrate subjects in the core curriculum.  Current research on integration, a variety of effective integrative methods, and sample activities from PEER’s new modular form of integrated curriculum will all be covered.
  • How to get the most out of PowerPoint.  PEER’s curriculum designer will offer advanced tips and tricks as well as fundamental principles of educational PowerPoint design. Technical topics like automation tools, clip art editing, presentation set-up, and the use of live data in PowerPoint presentations are combined with educational topics like visual thinking, reinforcing concepts, and the use of PowerPoint in print design, all grounded in principles of good design and current research in memory and visual learning.
  • How to use new technologies in the core curriculum.  We’ll look at ways teachers can integrate new technologies that will captivate their students’ interest into core curriculum subjects. Streaming video, audience response systems, and classroom camcorder projects will be covered as well as ways to work with technology specialists in your school or district to effectively bring new technologies into your classroom.  We’ll also examine current technology grant opportunities available specifically for teachers
  • How to plan team-teaching efforts in any school setting.  Participants will role-play curriculum mapping in groups using mock scenarios and then confront the real circumstances at their own schools.

At the end of the workshop, participating teachers will receive:

  • Curriculum CDs containing currently available PEER mini-modules and full modules
  • A “PowerPoint Toolkit” CD which walks through techniques covered in the PowerPoint workshop and includes additional tools like PowerPoint quiz, game-show, and flash card templates, a supplemental toolbar of PEER-designed PowerPoint functions, and links and resources for further study

* A basic knowledge and familiarity with PowerPoint is recommended, but not required, for attendance at these workshops.  Basic PowerPoint skills will not be covered.

Workshops are free to teachers and schools.  In addition, PEER will reimburse teachers for meals and
transportation and will pay lodging expenses (lodging the night before and the 1st night of the workshop (for 2 day workshops) and only for teachers living >70 miles from the workshop location) up to, but not to exceed, $200 total expenses for all meals, transportation, and lodging.   [Note: A limit of 20-30 teachers per workshop is dictated by the number of computers available at each workshop location.]
