What factors can change the temperature of a body of water?

Hopefully, you have thought of a few answers to this question.  Does your list include one or more of the following items?

1.  air temperature

2.  sunlight

3.  soil erosion

4.  thermal pollution

An increase in any of these factors will increase water temperature.

Air Temperature
Air temperature and the amount of direct sunlight can directly affect the water temperature.  Water temperatures may change during the day; heating during the daylight hours and cooling at night.   In the Northern Hemisphere, as winter approaches - air temperatures cool and the amount of daylight decreases.  As a result, the water temperatures change with the seasons.
