All organisms have temperature preferences.  Stonefly nymphs and salmon survive best in cooler water.

Dragonfly nymphs and carp prefer warmer conditions.

Even human beings prefer a certain range of water temperature for swimming or bathing.  Most of us would not enjoy swimming in either icy or hot water.
