Title of project:  Fellows Integrate Science/Math in Rural Middle Schools

Number of Fellows per year: 10 graduate and 12 advanced undergraduate Fellows

Brief Overview: The long-term goal of the program is to create a GK-12 model to train Fellows and improve the content of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in rural grades 6-8. The intellectual merit of our approach derives from four outcomes: 1) development of a mechanism to enrich graduate education; 2) enhance knowledge and skills of Fellows for educational outreach; 3) heightened sensitization of Fellows to the needs and opportunities of rural, geographically-isolated students; 4) and improve teachers knowledge and understanding in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Graduate and Undergraduate Fellows will serve as role models and stimulate students’ interest in STEM by conveying the excitement of research and discovery.
