Title: Colonization of the Americas
Description: Students today may not realize how much land and power the European countries once held in the Americas. Students learn about Europe’s presence in the Americas, but to fully understand the impact of Europe's presence one should turn to a map of that time-period. This activity helps students grasp how much territory the three European countries (that were the major world powers of their time) once held in the Americas.
Key Words: Colonization, Americas, mapping activity, New World, European land claims,
Grade Level: 8th
Subject: Social Studies/History

Teacher's Request: I need an activity for social studies dealing with what European countries (Spain, France, and Great Britain) held what land (colonies and provinces) during the colonization of the America's. Something that would help the students see the particular land holdings.
