The PEER Program (Youth STEM Promotion)

The Partnership for Environmental Education & Rural Health (PEER) Program at the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) is funded by a Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) grant and strives to further K-12 STEM education in rural schools across the United States. In keeping with Texas A&M University’s Vision 2020 goals, PEER directs its overarching goals toward four of the 12 main imperatives. PEER helps the Texas A&M VMBS Meet Our Commitment to Texas, Build Community & Metropolitan Connections, Increase Access to Knowledge Resources, and Diversify & Globalize the Texas A&M Community.

Veterinary, graduate, and undergraduate students, scientists, and veterinarians have opportunities to stimulate interest in STEM careers nationwide through outreach events, webcasts, video conferencing, and presentations.

  • The program provides free, TEKS-aligned curricula for 6th–8th grade.
  • Teachers may request a lesson and lesson plan for any grade.
  • Students may also enjoy browsing the PEER YouTube channel, which includes veterinary student interviews and scientist presentations.
  • Veterinary and undergraduate students, scientists, and veterinarians have opportunities to stimulate interest in STEM careers through outreach events, webcasts, video-conferencing, and presentations.

The program spreads awareness and knowledge of One Health and veterinary, life, and agricultural sciences—plus much, much more!
